Membership Credits & Fundraisers

Credits
The District of Columbia Hampton Parents' Club (DCHPC) has a system which parents must obtain credits in order for their children to be eligible for scholarship awards. The purpose of the requirement has two functions. First, it serves as a catalyst to encourage full participation from our members in supporting DCHPC fundraising efforts. During the past two (2) years, DCHPC has managed to distribute over $13,000 in scholarship funds. The club wishes to exceed our past efforts. This can only occur with a concerted effort. Secondly, it serves as a system of accountability and recognition for members who demonstrate outstanding effort in raising funds.

Fundraisers
District of Columbia Hampton Parents' Club has dutifully supported its efforts mainly via fundraising activities conducted by its members. The club, throughout the years, has developed creative and innovative ideas which are solely designed to raise scholarship funds. The current fundraisers planned for the year 2010-2011 are:
" Fruit Sale (Oct-Nov)
" Thanksgiving Bus (Nov)
" Gift Wrapping during the Xmas Holidays (Nov-Dec)
" Hampton University Concert Choir (Feb)
" Spring Fling Dance (Mar)
" Spring Bus (Apr)
" St. Mary's Car Raffle (Apr)

A successful compensation/reward system requires strategic planning, well-defined goals, and most importantly, commitment from its participants. The executive board has laid out the foundation for all upcoming fundraisers. The goal is plain and simple-DCHPC Scholarships. In addition, The club offers additional monetary benefits to paid members such as: 1) a book scholarship ($50.00) for students; the recipient is selected each month at the end of membership meetings; parents must submit their membership cards to be randomly selected*, 2) gift cards for students during finals* (fall semester), 3) graduation gifts*, 4) best essay recognition awards (scholarship process*), and 5) best seller award to highest fundraiser ticket seller.
DCHPC can benefit from successful fundraising by 1) being recognized as a reputable organization which seeks to offer scholarships to DC area Hampton University students*; 2) establishing strong community ties, and 3) fostering network opportunities.

We ask each member to please take an active role in supporting the financial structure of DCHPC and its mission. The bottom line is, "our children will truly reap the fruits of our labor".

Sincerely,

Deborah Daniels-Christie
President, DCHPC 2010-2011
