THE DC HAMPTON PARENTS CLUB I. Purpose To encourage and assist Hampton University undergraduate students in their pursuit of higher education. II. Eligibility and Submission Requirements 1. Complete, sign, and submit the Parents Club Scholarship Application Form. 2. Be continuing students in good academic standing at Hampton University. 3. Submit a letter of recommendation from academic advisor or a current or former Hampton University professor.. 4. Submit an official University transcript in a sealed University envelope.. 5. Answer the essay question of no more than one typed doubled-spaced page. The essay will be rated on content, depth, grammar, organization, and originality.. 6. Parents and or guardians must be current members in the D.C. Hampton Parents Club and have met all financial obligations, including the minimal $200 requirement as of the final parent’s club meeting in May. III. Scholarships and Selection Criteria A. The Evelyn Beam Scholarship - Honors the founder of The DC Hampton Parents Club. The scholarship shall be awarded annually to one eligible undergraduate student meeting the GPA requirements, unless there is a tie, then the amount will be divided equally among the awardees. The Evelyn Beam Scholarship honors students in the highest scholarship category with a minimum GPA of 3.8. To qualify, applicants must have a GPA of 3.8 or higher, either cumulative or for the last two semesters, whichever is highest. B. DCHPC Merit Scholarships - Merit scholarship recipients shall be continuing students who have at least a 3.0 or higher grade point average (GPA). C. Student Award - The Student Scholarship Award recipients shall be continuing students who are in good standing, with a minimum GPA of 2.0. D. Helping Hands Award - The recipient shall be a continuing student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership or community service skills. The award is open to student(s) whose GPA is 2.5 or above. E. Matthew Hopkins Award - The Matthew Hopkins Scholarship honors the life of Matthew F. Hopkins, a 2003 graduate of Hampton University, majoring in Marketing. This scholarship is open to all courses of study offered at Hampton University. The award is open to students whose GPA is 2.5 or above. The Parents Club Scholarship Committee will review all applications and make awards based on the eligibility criteria. 1. All Scholarships will be presented at The Parents Club Freshman Orientation Program. 2. The amounts for each award category shall be determined annually. A. Note to students: 1.
